Fire Cooking . Portobello
You can find Gold smack bang in the middle of (often) hectic Portobello. A mural of eyes created by artist Vhilis and commissioned by the folks behind Gold, draw you in. There are 3 floors. Ground floor has a casual bar area at the front with a mini jungle nestled in the back where we sat. The floor above holds a modern attractive dining room and the third floor plays host to a chic private dining space.
Theo Hill (ex River Cafe) leads the kitchen in Gold with aplomb. The braised rabbit leg tortelloni that I ordered was absolutely fire, as was the wood roasted whole sea bream with wild oregano and crispy capers. The service was overall sweet but sadly slow and at times forgetful.
However, it was still fairly early days when we went, having opened two months prior. I mean they weren’t fresh out the womb but still I want to give them the benefit of the doubt they are still getting their service game together.I think it’s a solid addition to the Notting Hill dining scene and I wouldn’t hesistate to go back
