Total . Meat . Feast
It’s safe to say this place isn’t designed for vegetarians or vegans. Meat is the order of the day and is sourced responsibly and exclusively from the Warren Family, apparently Cornwall’s oldest third-generation farmers and butchers.
Blacklock now has three sites across London; the first one being Soho, in what was once a former brothel. In the Soho outpost, where we went, you descend into a dark cavernous, very pared back space. There’s no bells and whistles, everyone is clear what they’ve come down here to do and that is eat. Last year, I unsuccessfully tried to book Sunday lunch in the Soho branch 3 or 4 times, a week or even a few weeks in advance. No such luck, they are booked out way in advance. I finally made it here in Jan with a group of pals on a Tue night and it was still packed. Tue in Jan – yep.
It’s not hard to see why though. The chops cooked over charcoal are quality and delicious and bloody good value for money. Their ‘All In’ at £20 per person comprises all the ‘Skinny Chops’ available on the day, piled on coal flatbread (superb – having drunk up the juices of the meat) + a side each. You can also get cocktails for a fiver. This is value you just can’t argue with.
