Tasty French tapas in cool spaces

KANNDID SNAPSHOT

French Tapas | RR | £££

Blanchette has x2 posts, one in Soho (the original) and one on Brick Lane that serve up small plates of French food with some N.African influences punching through at times. Both have a vintage bric a brac feel about them whilst being totally modern at the same time. I went most recently to the Shoreditch branch which has an elegant but casual private dining space out back that can hold up to 14 ppl (at a real squeeze). We felt well looked after by the waiters / waitresses who’ve got a laid but professional approach. One of their ‘snacks’ and x2/3 of the bigger plates (meat / fish / vegetable) should satiate your hunger. We sampled a range of stuff: the cheese beignets with onion confit, duck rillettes with rose jelly and mixed seed sourdough, baked Moroccan eggs, green bean salad with aged comté cheese, shallots and walnut dressing and crispy duck leg with spiced aubergine and smoked chilli jelly.
