Breakfast Central London

HUBBARD & BELL

Good value brekkie spot nestled in the Hoxton Hotel

LOCATION

I generally tend not to go to Holborn but a Roksanda sample sale drew me here. My sister and I got to the Hoxton Hotel early and decided to have some breakfast at Hubbard & Bell, whilst we waited for the doors to open.

THE SPACE

The original Hoxton Hotel which launched in Shoreditch in 2006, was one of the early birds for pushing a hip but sophisticated hotel aesthetic and they’ve carried over this approach to their Holborn branch. The Hoxton Holborn is a handsome hotel – Mid century modern is the look they’ve opted for, a look that seems to be soaring in popularity with a number of hospitality establishments of late. Hubbard & Bell itself is described as a ‘Brooklyn – style grill’.

FOOD & SERVICE

I ordered some scrambled eggs on sourdough toast with salmon and avocado. There was a bit of a miscommunication about how I wanted the eggs and it came out poached rather than scrambled. They were extremely swift to remedy this and re-presented me with scrambled eggs instead. I have to admit I wasn’t expecting the portions to be so large! I’m pretty sure they gave me a whole avocado, about four slices of salmon and two eggs scrambled up. The quality was pretty good but my fave spot so far in London for an eggs and salmon style breakfast is still Kensington Square Kitchen.

VIBE

It was fairly buzzy in the morning when I went. Mixed crowd.

MOOLAH

Eggs any style with toast in central London for a fiver? My mammoth breakfast plate came in only at £11. If you’re looking for a decent breakfast spot within a nice environment in central London, I’d say give this place a shout
