Porto is a 50 mins plane ride from Lisbon, alternatively, you can take the train to Porto from Lisbon which is a 3 hour journey. So, if you just can’t choose between these two Portugese cities, then hit up both as I did.
There are similarities between the two cities – namely the steep AF hills and beautifully tiled buildings. The appreciation for tradition and locality, whilst embracing modernity which I had experienced in Lisbon felt true of Porto too.
Yet, Porto has it’s own distinct vibe. Beyond the tourist crowds of the harbour, there’s an independent energy that surges through the city; whilst I wouldn’t call it ‘undiscovered’ by any stretch of the imagination; in comparison to Lisbon, it does feel a bit more mysterious, like you could stumble upon a place that’s not been uncovered by every single city trotter.
