Sloppy tasty pizzas in a casual cool space

LOCATION

The Homeslice I went to is just off Shoreditch High Street, on Old Street, not far from St. Leonard’s Church. They have x2 other spots: one in Covent G and the other in Fitzrovia.

THE SPACE

The space is unfussy in its styling and it has its own laid back groove which gives it its character; a place where you would quite happily linger rather than gobble up your pizza and move on. There are quite a number of seats both downstairs and upstairs and tables that can accommodate large groups.

FOOD & SERVICE

I went here during my lunch hour once and ordered a margherita by the slice which was good, so I suggested this place for a group lunch another day. At Homeslice, they serve up 20″ wood fired pizzas and play around with their toppings, using seasonal produce; so yeah you can get a margherita but the bulk of its offering is rather non-traditional e.g oxtail & watercress with horseradish & sorrel cream.

On my 2nd visit, I shared a 20″ pizza: one half was aubergine, cauliflower cheese, spinach & harrisa; the other half mushroom, ricotta, pumpkin seed & chilli. Both were really rather tasty despite being a complete sloppy mess. They come on flimsy paper plates and you literally just need to scoop up the pizza, devour it full throttle and embrace the cheesy drippiness – probs not first date fodder.

Ordered some house prosecco at a fiver which was drinkable. We didn’t make it to dessert; had to get back to that thing called work.

VIBE

The Homeslice in Shoreditch is super chill – both the crowd and staff – it’s a simple cool space to grab that simple staple food those glorious Italians bestowed on us – The Pizza.
