‘Somebody’ is a new communication app from Miranda July, artist, writer and director of the brilliant 2005 comedy Me and You and Everyone We Know:

“ ‘Somebody’ works when you send a message to an intended recipient, a friend, a lover, a family member.…The message goes not to the intended recipient, but to the person geographically nearest in proximity to the intended recipient. The messenger, most likely a stranger, delivers the message verbally, acting as your stand in.” (Prada)

Miranda’s short film to launch the ‘Somebody’ app, developed with the support of Miu Miu is delightfully hilarious. The film is peppered with AW 14-15 Miu Miu garb:

We’ve seen Wang promote his range using comedy as a vehicle, with
Bon Qui Qui , so it’s not a new concept in that respect but the film combined with the app certainly does make it innovative (in the fashion field at least). I think it is utterly genius and I love seeing designer garb being presented in such a fresh context, steeped in everyday life. It’s a smart bold move from Miu Miu and really helps to communicate the brand’s playful, quirky personality.
See the video below. I would so love to try out this new app but frustratingly it is not available on android. Sort it out!
