I was thinking about places I enjoyed this year and realised I never posted about Morchella which I visited way back in March.
It’s the same folks behind Perilla and you can tell (in the best way): chic, unpretentious with tasty dishes to boot. We sat at the bar and I might have been overtly excited about the pull out cutlery and menu drawer. A simple, utilitarian and fun dining feature; it’s always interesting to me to see how restaurants decide to play with their space.
The menu is more or less Mediterranean inspired. Our order was made up of mostly snacks. We opted for the Mussel Pil Pil: a chunk of focaccia soaked in a sauce comprising olive oil, garlic, chilli, shallots, herbs, spices and mussels – decadent and one to order for sure. The scallop with cauliflower mushroom – a dish of style and substance – I’d order it again. Other snacks included salt cod churros and bite size spanakopita. We threw in a side of shaved vegetables, to keep the balance, ha.
Spaghetti vongole is always a bit of a no brainer, so we ordered this bigger plate too.
We were going to order the short rib as well but weren’t actually that hungry and didn’t want to waste it; especially as we had our eyes on dessert. We got the lemon tart – a wobbly delight.

I will 100% revisit Morchella.
